Carol Vernallis studied camerawork and editing in music videos.
After years of research she came up with these main points.
- The usual rule of 'continuity' editing are not present in order to get us to focus on what is on the screen.
- edits such as 'wipes' and special effects may occur to draw attention to themselves.
- Base tracks are frequently used in order to give the video a structure
- There are lots of jump cuts used
- The camera may move in time with the music.
