Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars
After having carefully analysed this music video by the British alternative rock band Snow Patrol, I have realised that it fits into the Vernallis' theory about editing. Here we see many obvious edits such as at 0.52 seconds, we see a fade to black as the scene changes. This fade to black is used to show a clear difference between the scenes and make it more interesting for the viewer than seeing straight cuts all the time.
As this is a slow paced song, there are not really many fast cuts; this reflects what Vernallis said about editing to the beat of the song. The shot changes on the 4th and then 8th beat in turn, this irregular use of cuts reflects his emotions because he is confused and sad, so his emotions are random and all over the place, just like the cuts.
We see no continuity here, for example we see a train drive past at 02.45 seconds and then 2 seconds later we see the persona on the train. There was no edits used to continuously show us his journey to get on the train; we just see him on it which discards to idea of continuity editing.
