Research- Laura Mulvey

"In a world ordered by sexual imbalance, pleasure in looking has been split between active/male and passive/female. The determining male gaze projects its fantasy onto the female figure which is styled accordingly"The quote above sums up Laura Mulveys theory.
She believes that in todays music industry women are reprsented in a very sexual way, men are free to look at them and women are constently pressurised into looking a certain way.

I will be using the video below to explain some of her ideas.


In the video theres a lot of segmenting of aspects of the body, there is a lot of focus on certain parts of the body, for example the legs.
This proves Mulveys theory because the audience will be made to focus on that and look at the character from a male prespective.
