Carol Vernails theory looks at four key aspects: Narrative
                                                                             Editing
                                                                             Camera movemnt and Framing
                                                                             Diegesis

Carol says that the narrative is the visual response of  the video. And that there is no balance between the narrative and the perfomance. It's also noticed that the narrative doesnt run throughtout the video but its partially or fragmented narrative. Or the structure may seem to be disjointed. Siginfcantly the perfomance, music or other elemements seem to be the aspect that pushes the video forward. Towards the end, videos may not contain a clear resultion which in effect may raise questions that is not answered from the video itself. Also there would be the narrative or theme within the video in a montage form.

In terms of Editing Carol says that the editing will match the musical phrases or the beat of the song. Music videos seem to break the rule of continuity which is ment to be the main convention. With in the video edits may become really obviouse and become the main attractions opposing the view of contunuity editing.

For instances the editing will contain: Jump Cuts
                                                             Breaks of the 30 degree rule
                                                             Breaks of the 180 degree rule
                                                             Cutting against the movement
                                                             Cutting with the lyrics
                                                             Fancy edits or cuts
                                                             Extreme jumps in time and space
                                                             Extreme changes in pace
                                                             Juxtoposed frames
                                                             Graphic matches
                                                             A style of editing that runs through the video and is distinctive- to that video.

However you may not see: Smooth tranistions
                                            Matches on actions
                                            An even pace throughout

Camera movment and framing Carol states that there are extreme shot types. She says what will make the video be distinctive is the framing and movment. And it's possiable for the camera to move in time with the music, lyrics. In addition she says the video will have a master shot or an establishing shot are used often also close up shots.

Diegesis: Carol says that that the diegesis will be reveled slowly. And the actions are not nesercarily finished. They either will be interputed or disrupted. The character or objective movments will change to the music. There will be a gap created in audeinces and understaning the diegesis. In space and time, space, perfomance and narrative. More over there will be repition for example in the beat, musical phrase, perfomance, camer shot e.t.c.
