AMBER - Contrast in Audience Research Interviews

I found it interesting to hear the contrast in answers between the two interviewees...

Similarities in answers:
  • They both think that simplicity in the shots and performance is key.
  • They both agree that the lyrics play a big part in Emeli's videos because they are strong and passionate

Differences in answers:
  • Jodie believes that having a story running through the song is not necessary, it should just be the performer singing directly to the audience so they can feel her passion for the lyrics. On the other hand, Kelly believes that the way to emotionally link the lyrics to the footage is through some kind of a story.
  • They both have contrasting ideas of what the word Wonder means to them. Jodie feels it is a dream like world with clouds and being chilled out, however Kelly feels it is upbeat and bursting with colour, like a firework is how she describes it.

Over all, both interviewees do have similar ideas about the simplicity of the video. This is something we are going to use because it is not about the locations or having a storyline, it is more about the passion and expression of the lyrics using the face and body language to do so, just like Emeli does in her videos.

I can tell that because each interviewee is from the different sides of the spectrum of the age range, they have slightly different ideas of what Wonder means to them. This reiterates to me that everyone has different ideas and concepts of what Wonder is, therefore I am going to continue to ask as many people as possible the question, as well as deciding with the group what they think is Wonder to them too.
