In lesson we looked Dizzee Rascal’s Holiday
music video and analysed it
according to Mulvey’s theory
In the music video the reaction of the men to the women is happy
as they are watching and looking at what they consider to be pretty, sexy women
in there bikinis. The reaction of the women to the men in the video is happy as
they are fine showing off their bodies and getting all the men’s attention.
This clearly shows men as being active and the females being passive.
The music video is saying that men are very hungry for sex
and the female body and that the women are very seductive and attention seeking
of the males gaze.
We are forced to watch the video from a male’s perspective
and the audience is mainly for males from the age of puberty and above.
Mulvey’s theory can be applied to the music video because the
males gaze projects its fantasy onto the female figure which is styled
accordingly.
The music video is also evident of what Mulvey discusses
about how the genders are seen in the media. Females are dismembered where only
certain parts of the body are seen and the males are seen as a whole.
