Andrew Godwins wrote a book 'Dancing in the discreation factory' and it points out charactertistics and features that can be found in music videos.

1. Music videos demenstrate genre. (for example, dance routine in girl/boy bands, aspirations in hip hop videos.
2. Music videos have links between the lyrics and visuals. Meaning lyrics are shown through visuals.
3. There is a realtionship between the music and the visuals. (e.g. amplification, disjuncture, narrative.)
4. Close ups of the artist and some cases artist create a motif also know aas visual style.
5. Frequant notion of looking wether it's screens within screen or mirrors. Also voyeuristic treatment of the female body.
6. Most will have intertextual refference. (To films, programmes)
