Question

What have you learned
from your audience feedback?
On
Tuesday 18th December 2012 the music video ‘Wonder’ was screened at
the Screen on the Green. It was the first time the completed video has been seen
by a large audience. The majority of the audience (who were all media students)
are part of the target audience of the music video. The target audience of the
music video are females who are in the age range of 16 to around late 30’s. So I
have used this opportunity to ask a set of 6 questions to students who are part
of the target audience for their feedback after the screening. Also I was able
to see the audience’s reaction to the music video after the screening (click here to see blog).
Music Video - Feedback & My Response
The feedback was very similar and
positive, along the lines of the interviewee feeling some inspiration,
encouragement and empowerment. I am happy that the video has created
these feelings for the audiences as this is something I wanted the video to show
as it is something I felt that the target audience could identify and relate to,
which I have learnt they did.
It was said that there was
great mise-en-scene in the music video, which also contributed to creation of
the feeling / meaning the audience made while watching the video. This tells me
that audiences look at these things so they can relate to the video. Antonia was
able to notice the recurring basetracks that was seen during the chorus, saying
it also creates consistency in the video with the red things, telling me that
the target audience look for consistency in music videos.

People felt that there was something
missing in the video. It was suggest that there should have been extra people in
the video or even something more related to the performance, as dancing was
suggested by Christabell. From this I have learnt that that audiences also look
for things that they would like to see in the music video which can help them
relate / feel more connected to what they have interpreting from the music video. Furthermore it was said by Christabell that the changes that were made
from the rough cut was a improvement because it didn't create the feeling or
mood that suited the genre of music (soul) or the message of the song, which
also supports what I have learnt about audiences (especially females) that they
unintentionally look for things that they can relate to and has meaning to
them.
The structure of the music video
which was disjuncture was noticed, however it was mentioned as amplification and
illustration. This I can understand because based on what I have learnt from the
audiences and their feedback the word ‘wonder’ has different meanings to people
and as the performance was strong and conveyed emotion people could of felt this
to be amplifying the lyrics of the song (amplification) which consist of the
word ‘wonder’ in the lyrics, also different sources of lights were seen in the music video:
the sun, candles and a lantern and the word wonder could mean light to people
so this could of caused illustration.

Overall the interviewee’s said that
the music video was good and it fitted the song and the genre of soul also they
liked the fact that an emotional connection was / could have been made, telling
me that that audiences uses there emotions to judge the video.
My response is that by judging the
overall audience’s reaction, response and feedback to the music video, I can say
that I think I have created a successful product to the chosen target audience
(females age 16 to late 30's) correctly as there were little negative comments.
Also if I had a chance to recreate the music video I would defiantly consider
adding people / extras to the music video as people strongly felt that this
was what was missing in the music video.
On Wednesday 16 January
2013 I finished creating the ancillary products (digipak and magazine
advertisement) for the main product (the music video). I got feedback by a
member or the target audience and feedback from a member of the wider audience
by asking them 6 specific questions that I have created earlier on, based on the
digipak and magazine advertisement.
Ancillary
Products -
Feedback & My Response
From the feedback I have learnt that the both interviewee’s were able to notice
more then 3 different links. This lets me know that I have been successful at
creating visual links between the main product and its ancillary products,
meaning that I have picked out correct visual links that the target audience and the wider audience will notice in all products.
Antonia has mentioned she would buy the products by the new artist as it gives vibes of other artists which she can relate to such as Adele & Alicia Keys. This also suggests that audiences are more likely to purchase an item if they can relate to them also Adele’s debut album is something I looked into when doing research into debut albums.

Based on the feedback
of question 3 & 4 I would consider changing the background of the ancillary
products as it come across a very formal, making the audience think the musical
genre is classical and the artist being lonely because of the white background,
however Antonia did mention it as being a link to the music video as the artist
was alone making the viewer only look at the artist, which I think is good
because it is doing the job of promoting the artist
Furthermore reflecting on the feedback given by Chris he did mention the idea of making the background all music notes or less plain, I do I agree with this but I think if I was to create the ancillary products again with the new idea of the background it could draw attention away from the artist, which I wouldn’t want to do as the whole point is to promote a new artist and the music. Both interviewee’s have said the digipak promotes the artist well as all you can see pretty music is Athena’s face everywhere.
