Looking at Previous Students Work

In lesson 19/10/12 after we had another group discussion with Rebecca (about our ideas and planning for filming) we spoke about how we can do good filming as a group which also promotes a new artist and their music, as we said we wanted that was the purpose of the music video in the pitch.

As we have been influenced by Jessie Ware’s music videos where she is filmed seated singing to the camera, we have decided to do something similar in the pub.

So then Rebecca showed us 2 videos of previous students work, one with good filming and one with poor filming. I have done a quick review on both videos based on the filming.

In this Thrasher music video by previous students Sabien Flint, Jayden Murphy, Tenica Achord-Green and Michael Sintim the camera is constantly moving, so the video is never still. This makes the viewer seem as if they are moving with the video, engaging with the musician / performer. So even when there is no sound playing with the video, the viewer can still get an idea of the pace, rhythm and beat of the song.

However, the music video by previous students Sharmin Begum, Habiba Ahmed, Sanchita Paul and Tasnim Anisa Ali the performer / musician is singing while sitting on a chair and the camera is still on the tripod. The stillness of the camera doesn't allow the view to engage with the performer / musician making the video boring to watch because it is just watching the performer / musician move and nothing else. Also when the video is played with no music the viewer has no idea about what the speed of the song is like.

media1322's Poor Filming Screen Shots album on Photobucket

So to prevent poor filming in our music video for Wonder we have decided not to take out a tripod with us when we go to film for the music video.

Finalised Filming Locations

As a group we all had an input of were we wanted to film our music video and how we wanted the locations to look like. We all decided that we wanted a chic room and a piano as the sound is recurring in the song.
We then did some research into hotel rooms, which we chose Sibora should be in charge as she knows people that could help us. Finally we decided to film at the pub as it had a chic room look inside and Sibora got us permission to film in their for free.
We were also able to find a piano shop which Sibora contacted and got us permission to film there free as well.

Our main location is The Finsbury
The address of The Finsbury is 336 Green Lanes  London, Greater London N4 1BY
Their telephone number is 020 8809 1142

Here is their website: http://www.thefinsbury.co.uk/ They also have a twitter @TheFinPub

Another location that we our filming at is Peregrines Pianos
The address of Peregrines Pianos is 137A Grays Inn Rd  London, Greater London WC1X 8TU
Their telephone number is 020 7242 9865
Here is their website: www.peregrines-pianos.com/

New Production Schedule

While presenting our Pitch to make the music video Wonder, we found out that we had had our production schedule dates wrong and it did not fit in with when we book the equipment during the second half of half term.

So as a group we went back and made a new production schedule. Here it is

Sibora Sokoli will be our performer, She will come with the outfits that we all chosen and decided that she should wear. Also on the filming days the equipment we will need is a camcorder, lights & battery, flip camera and maybe some other equipment that will help with our filming that we will discuss with the technicians.

We also decided that when we come back for our first lesson of media after half term, we will look at what we have filmed and if more filming is needed we will return to the locations and do more filming during one of our 3 hour lessons.

Also because all our locations that we our filming at, we don’t need to worry about the weather as all our filming is interior filming

During The Pub Visit

While me and the group where visiting the location The Finsbury (the pub) and filming vlogs on the flip camera, I also took photographs on my phone of areas in the pub that I thought we good and where we should film our basetracks from with the performer / musician.

Seeing The Finsbury for the first time, I think that the interior of the pub suites the chic / classical look that the group is going for, which also suites the soul gene of the song Wonder.

Planning - Exploring Shot Types

In lesson 26/11/12 (as we planned last lesson) we took photos of different camera angle from different camera distance for some potential shots from our shot list, that we can use while filming our music video. We decided that we will use each of our bodies to take the shots, so that we all were able to take photographs each.

media1322's shot list album on Photobucket

We decided to have lots of shots of the performer / musician, including close ups and extreme close ups, because our purpose of the music video is to promote a new musician and her music.

AMBER - What I got out of the Chat with Chris

From our chat with Chris, I got a lot out of it which has helped me understand Emeli's style better. I took this opportunity to ask him questions, such as what would he expect to see in one of her videos and also a music video for the soul/r&b genre. This helped us a lot because as he knows Emeli personally, he was be able to give us a better insight to the kind of things she likes and what she would typically put into a music video.
He told us the Emeli "like things different", she doesn't like to follow the typical conventions of a music video and she likes to do things that the viewer wouldn't expect. This was good to know so now we have realised that we shouldn't strictly follow the forms, we should think outside of the box and break the conventions.
He also told us that Emeli's lyrics are very emotive and powerful, they mean a lot to her and her music videos reflect her sentimental values. Therefore this has helped us to realise that we need to all think about what the word 'Wonder' means to each of us and incorporate  this into our video so that we can make it personal as well as meaningful and interesting.

As part of Chris' job role, he helps promote Emeli; therefore he knows a lot about promotion techniques which we asked him about. He said an excellent way is through new media, especially social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. This is a direct way to hit the target audience and we will consider these promotional methods when it comes to promoting our original artist who is similar to Emeli Sande.

Chris also reiterated to us the importance of good footage, he told us that we must have precise framing for the shots to look good. Chris mentioned that our ideas for locations were good and that we need to be careful with lighting whilst we are filming; which shouldn't really be a problem for us as we plan to film most of our footage in an interior environment. So if we decide to film some of our footage outside we will be extra careful with lighting!

Chat With Chris

Today we were lucky enough to have a chat with Chris who works alongside Emeli Sande so he was able to tell us about her from personal experience.

Planning- Shot types

I have been looking at what type of shots we should experiment with and input to our music video.

Pub Visit

Today we went to visit our location as a group for the first time. Luckily Sibora had visited it before so she knew exactly how to get there but it was good for us all to visit it and see what it was like. The visit helped each of us to visual what out video will be like, it gave us an insight to the different angles we should us on the stage, and also where we could film base tracks from. We liked the venue because the stage was really good for us and also some of the chairs and sofas gave a vintage kind of look we are going for. The above embedded clips are of us in the location and talking about what we think of it. We are yet to visit the piano showroom that we also plan to film in, but we are due to have a meeting with the owner next week in order to discuss our plans and then we will take some pictures when we are there.

AMBER - Research into Projections Idea

After having had a chat with the technicians at college, they told us that if we are to go ahead with the projections idea, we will have to find the moving image to project ourselves. First of all we thought we could make a filter for the lights with a nice pattern on it; however we realised that this could be time consuming and it would be a lot easier to find or create a moving image to project. I am still thinking long and hard about what to use for this, therefore I did some research on what kind of moving image I would like to use.

Above is an embedded clip of a moving star background that I came across. I like this because it is bright and colourful, it is captures your attention and it brings to life the aspect of Wonder. Having a projection that is colourful is very important; as wonder to me, is very light, vibrant, happy and colourful, therefore if black and white images were used it would drain out the life and soul of the song.

AMBER - Personal Inspirational videos 1

After looking into the projections idea, Rihanna's video 'You Da One' really stood out and inspired me for my own music video. Above is the embedded original music video.
After having watched this video, I have realised that I feel for my own music video I would prefer to have it in colour instead of all black and white. Although the projections used here inspired me, they were all in black and white, therefore when completing this idea I will definitely used coloured projections because I personally feel that would suit the mood of our some more.

AMBER - New Ideas - Projection Idea

Recently our group has come up with a new idea that could be used in our video. After perviously having analysed the pervious student video, Howl by Poppy Power, I noticed that they used some projections on her face. We thought projections would be nice to have in our video because it gives a new idea of Wonder.
Then after looking into other music videos, I came across the video 'You Da One' by Rihanna and she also uses projections in her video too. We see her lying on the floor wearing all white and images are projected onto her body and it looks really nice and wonderful. We then asked the technicians in college if this is possible to do, they said it has never been done before but we could certainly give it a go and see if it works. We have booked out the Green Screen room in college for Friday 9th November 2012 where we plan to do a test run to see if this idea works out.

I then became curious to how the producers of Rihanna's video 'You Da One' managed to create this projection effect. Therefore I did some research and came across this short video about the making to the music video. At 01:08, we can see the projections on Rihanna and we can see that they actually went on the floor behind her too, therefore the benefit of the floor being black is that black absorbs the projections. This has taught me that when trying out this idea, it is very important for the performer to wear white and be against a black background. We also have the Green Screen as a back up incase this doesn't work. I can't wait to give this idea a try out.

AMBER - Travelling to locations

It is important to look into and plan the journeys of how we are going to get to the locations we are going to film in, this will help us to all know where we are going and not get lost. As all the members of our group live is various different places around London, I have looked into maps departing from Angel to the designated locations. This is because we all go to college in Angel and we know the area so this was a good general place to start from.

THE FINSBURY:

Considering this, here is the tub map showing how to get from Angel Station to Manor House station being the closest underground station to The Finsbury pub, our main location. Highlighted in red are the two different stations, Angel is on the Northern Line and Manor House on the Piccadilly. Therefore a change of line is required at Kings Cross St. Pancras Station which is highlighted in yellow.

Also shown is a basic overground map of the area that The Finsbury is located in, the nearest underground stations are Manor House as well as Harringay Green Lanes. Also there is an overhead National Rail train station which is Harringay which is pretty close to the pub too.

PEREGRINES PIANOS:

Looking into the location of the piano shop, I can see it's not too far from college. Here is an overhead map of the route from Angel Station (A) to Peregrines Pianos (B).
I also looked into a journey planner to find out the directions of getting there. In terms of walking, it will be about a 19 minute walk that is fairly simple and here is a screen shot of the directions which will be very useful to keep at hand she we don't get lost!
However, it may be easier for us to get the bus there, there are numerous bus routes that we can take including the 38, 19 and 341 which will all take us straight there in about 14 minutes.

AMBER - Finalised Locations

After having researched and contacted many different venues, we have finally chosen our main two filming locations.
These are;

  • The Finsbury pub
336 Green Lanes  London, Greater London N4 1BY

           020 8809 1142

  • Peregrines Pianos

AMBER - A note from Amber...

As media studies is my passion and what I want to do with my future, I have been doing some work experience with itv. Therefore I would like to apologise for any blogs that have been posted slightly late. This is only purely because I have spent a lot of time on set at itv, but now I will catch up with anything I have missed off the checklist and in a few days I will have done everything I need to and more.

AMBER - Contrast in Audience Research Interviews

I found it interesting to hear the contrast in answers between the two interviewees...

Similarities in answers:
  • They both think that simplicity in the shots and performance is key.
  • They both agree that the lyrics play a big part in Emeli's videos because they are strong and passionate

Differences in answers:
  • Jodie believes that having a story running through the song is not necessary, it should just be the performer singing directly to the audience so they can feel her passion for the lyrics. On the other hand, Kelly believes that the way to emotionally link the lyrics to the footage is through some kind of a story.
  • They both have contrasting ideas of what the word Wonder means to them. Jodie feels it is a dream like world with clouds and being chilled out, however Kelly feels it is upbeat and bursting with colour, like a firework is how she describes it.

Over all, both interviewees do have similar ideas about the simplicity of the video. This is something we are going to use because it is not about the locations or having a storyline, it is more about the passion and expression of the lyrics using the face and body language to do so, just like Emeli does in her videos.

I can tell that because each interviewee is from the different sides of the spectrum of the age range, they have slightly different ideas of what Wonder means to them. This reiterates to me that everyone has different ideas and concepts of what Wonder is, therefore I am going to continue to ask as many people as possible the question, as well as deciding with the group what they think is Wonder to them too.

AMBER - Further Audience Research 2

Interview:

Interviewee:

I now decided to interview someone from the higher end of the spectrum of our target 16-24 desired age range. Kelly is a 24 year old primary school teacher and I asked her the same questions that I perviously asked Jodie, the first interviewee, which were; What would you expect to see in an Emeli Sande music video? What would you expect to see in an r&b/soul music video? What does the word Wonder mean to you? These are very open questions which enables the interviewee to express exactly what they think with out being oppress to a yes or no answer.

AMBER - Further Audience Research 1

Interview:

Interviewee:

Here I have interviewed a member of our main target audience, Miss Jodie Gravett aged 18.
Being a female in the desired age range of 16-24, her ideas were very important to me as I feel it is key to consider what people in our target audience think and feel should be in a music video.

I asked 3 simple questions; What would you expect to see in an Emeli Sande video? What would you expect to see in a r&b/soul music video? What does the word Wonder mean to you?
All of Jodie's answers were very clear, she states that she expects simplicity and the focus of the video is on the artist and the meaning of the lyrics.

Reflection on progress blog.

So Far i have completed the tasks as well as i can, and havent fallen behind on any of the checklist tasks which i think is a positive because it means i will be able to do all the work the criteria requires me to do.
I also enjoy blogging which makes the whole process a lot easier and more enjoyable because i am also constantly learning.
Another positve would have to be that I do the blogs chronologically which means that if i evr go back and check through my blogs i will know what each blog is and not get confused.

Two targets i have for myself however are, that i need blog a lot more outside of the checklist and do a lot more independent blogging because just doing the blogs on the checklist will not be enough in order to get me and a high grade; that is what i am aiming for. Furthermore, i need to not leave my blogging till late which will allow me a lot more time to blog and not worry about missing deadlines because that means i will be able to get a higher mark aswell.

Planning- Refelction on progress blogg

Planning- 3 music viedos that have influenced planning

I was the one who intanily discovered the artist Jessie Ware that influences out ideas. I was looking at the video "Running" and "Wildest moments." What she has in common with Emile Sande is that they are both about the music and inspiration. They are not trying to sell themselves for any other purpose then the music itself. Another video which really will impact our music video and using intertextuallity from is Rihannas music vidoe "yu da one." Her video is all about the eiditing and it has amazing editing techqines that no one has tried doing with their music video in our college.
My third inspiration is Paloma Faith who is well known for extravigant look. All these videos help into looking at Mise-En- Scene, Editing, and camera work and shots.

Planning- Examining orginal webiste

The simplicity of this website is very convenient and its all about the music and enabling the audience to have easy accesses and it makes the audience appreciate Emile work again. And There is one picture of Emile thats very powerful and the way she is taken in that shot makes her appear very strong and proud. Black and white is the theme is more effective. Also the website is always been kept up to date.

Planning - analysis of orginal video

EMLIE SANDE- WONDER

http://youtu.be/_kASjW_aPbQ

Looking at Emiles music video her visuals and lyrics are realted. The lyrics to me is potraying that we are able to achieve everything and we are capable of anything. The emphises on the Wonder. The lyrics then are potrayed into the visuals. In the video emile is in a dream. As we all dream who what we could become and fantisise in the things that are luxuaries. The door that is shown in the middle of a river shows that where ever we are their are doors opened, oppertunites that we should take as we only live once. The river was in Denmark a beautiful location. Emlie as a motif has used the colour running throught and the smoke makes it seem like our desires are a drift away. We need to reach high in oder to reach them.

Similarites in the visuals and music is that their is the paino being played throughtout which akes it peacful and makes it seem like a lullaby. To exatrate the dream. And it seems like its transporting you into a different world.

More over this music video has the genre characteristics for soul and R&B. This is shown through the instruments being used. Also that the video is not a perfomance Its based around a concept rather then it being a narrative. However it has elements of R&B through the high production and the mise en sence such as emilies look, she is well dressed and dolled up.

Wonder video has some intertexualitity from Rihannas video. She also films in a river but both serve different purposes. Rihannas video is showing her a preditor seraching for her man. Whilst Emile is fantising along a river which makes i peacful and traniqul. Somewhere where your at ease and drift of.

What is more is that the video has notions of looking shown through the use of close ups of Emlies face. But unlike other R&B videos there is no voyeursim.

In terms of camera and shots. There are variouse shot used; Medium close up, extreme close up, over the shoulder, establishing shot and long shots. Camera follows through slowly. Low angel is used. And tracking of Emile and the boat through the river.  The postioning of the camera and the artist remian close. And its done in deep focus.

Audience task

Original Artist ( Emeli Sande )

The Offcial website of Emeli Sande is www.emelisande.com

It was easier for me to find her official website because she is a very successful artist.

As soon as i entered her website i was presented with ways of promotion,
we can see from the picture on the right hand side that you can pre order her album, so this straight away gives her fans a chance to know when and where they can get her new album, and its a great way of promoting their music.

They also allow you to watch her music video which not only lets her fans know that she has new music but also promotes
it and will make her website visitors listen to it or download it fromother websites such as I-tunes.

Another website that Emile sande uses in order to
promote and interact with her fans is the well known social networking
website 'Twitter' , on Twitter she can let her followers see the pictures she posts.
She can also tweet important release dates which her followers can then
retweet.

Original Artist ( Naughty Boy )

Naughty Boy produces a lot of music from different genres for different Artists, He doesnt have an official website however i managed to find his myspace page which he uses to promote his songs.

This is some background information on 'Naughty boy' , his full name: Shahid Khan, he was born in 1985. Naughty Boy is originally from hertfordshire and has been making music for genres such as "R'n'B, Hip Hop and Grime"

As we can see, he uses his Myspace to put up the songs or
remixes for his fans to listen to which is how he promotes his music.

Music video analysis ( third video )

' Analyse 3 music videos that have influenced your final planning decisions explaining clearly which ideas you are using/ adapting for your production. You must refer spacifically to ideas around editing, camerawork and mise-en-scene and at least need to be from the same genre as your final choice. '

In Dizzy rascals music video for 'Holiday' the editing is what influenced us mainly. Editing to the beat portrays a very organized and professional music video which is what we will be using from this music video. Editing to the beat requires us to listen to our music video and figure out when the beat changes so that we can cut between the bass tracks on time and edit on time to the bear of the music.

AMBER - PLANNING - Coming up with personal ideas

Personal Ideas 2:

Note idea

I have come up with some further ideas that I think would be an asset to our music video. During the bridge of the song, some of the lyrics that are repeated are "reach out and pass it on". Having listened to this lyrics many times, I had the idea of getting a physical object to "pass on". I thought about what this could be and I finally came up with the idea of it being a note; a note that adopts the words "you are full of wonder" which is also a reiterated lyric through out the song. As I believe the song is about lifting peoples spirits and making them feel better about themselves, I thought showing a note with a nice message like this being passed on to different people would look good because it is amplifying the lyrics and giving them a physical meaning of making others smile.

Above I have made a short clip of folding up with note and passing it on in different directions across the screen. In the actual video this would be passed between many different people, however has a short practise I used my own hands to indicate and mimic the actions of what would be going on.
I think my idea would work well, however I am going to discuss it with the girls and see what they think of it and then hopefully it'll be featured in our video.

AMBER - PLANNING - Coming up with personal ideas

Personal Ideas 1:

Clicking idea

I have come up with some ideas about what I think might look good in our music video. At the beginning of the song Wonder, we hear clicking for the first 14 seconds and there are 14 clicks, one every second. Therefore I thought of the idea of filming some hands actually clicking and then synch the actual song with the clicking noises over the footage of the hands.
After having a discussion with the group, we decided that this was not a very original unique idea because it's been done before, therefore we have scrapped the idea.
However, because I liked the idea, I decided to try out filming some clicking and synch it with the song. Above is the footage I took of two people's hands that I edited together using an amateur editing program called iMovie. I used a simple dissolve transition between the two hands and if we were to use this idea in the actual video, we'd have a lot more people's hands with transitions dissolving in and out of the different hands.

Planning for Next Lesson – 26/10/12

We were all happy with the pitch we presented on Wednesday but we were still a little confused with what we were doing. As a member from the group we not here today we still had to continue with our planning.

In lesson today we decided to have another group chat with Rebecca.

We talked about how we should film our base tracks and if we should lose or add another location.

We decided we were going to keep our locations but stick to the idea of filming our video very similar to Jessie Ware’s Running video because it promotes the artist and the music very well filming the artist from different distances and angles with a moving camera as it fits with we want to show and do based on the target audience and genre.

So next lesson we are going to film Sibora from different camera distances and angles to produce more test shots and a shot list. So that we can have more of an idea of what we our going to do when we do our filming for the music video.

We also have to correct our production schedule as it was not right during the pitch.

We have also planned that on the 23/10/12 we our going to check out the locations properly so that we can talk to who is in charge and have images of the location while it is empty giving us more of idea of what we can do there and how we our going to film Sibora.

Reflection on Progress

Here is a video of me discussing my blog progress, talking about if i have met my previous targets I set myself from my previous progress blog and new targets that I have set myself.

Music video analysis ( second video )

-'Analyse 3 music videos that have influenced your final planning decisions explaining clearly which ideas you are using\adapting for your production. You must refer specifically to ideas around editing, editing and mise-en-scene and at least need to be from the same genre as your final choice. '

Furthermore, we were once again influenced by 'Jessie ware' , in this music video, The way the music video is shot has massively influenced us, the camera is static ( which we wont be using ) , however, 'Jessie' is sitting on a chair. One location has been  used however the way the base tracks have been shot is very effective, for example as you can see from the pictures below, they have been shot in different angles, the the editing has just cut between them giving it a very interesting look.

-'Analyse 3 music videos that have influenced your final planning decisions explaining clearly which ideas you are using\adapting for your production. The first Artist to have had a significant effect on the way we have chosen toe portray our artist is 'Jessie ware' she is a English singer songwriter, who presents herself in a very simple yet effective way, for example, in her music video 'Running' the mise-en-scene has a boutique feel to it, especially with the couch and the red velvet curtains in the background.

we were very influenced by the 'feel' of this location, it makes her seem
very serious about her music, she also looks very dominant. which is the
look we are going for considering we will be introducing our artist.
( I have also added the music video below for you to look at)

New Moodboard

Here is our new moodboard for the genre of Soul & R&B for our changed song choice Wonder, that we worked on in class.
We used Camtasia to make it, copying images from Google which can give us inspiration (such as the mise-en-scene) for our music video make and ideas of the brand image we can use for our performer.

Planning- Analysis of original video

I have watched the original music video and taken notes of the location, clothing, motif's while comparing the difference that has with our music video.

AMBER - PLANNING - Looking into the target audience

After carefully considering and researching into target audiences, I have realised that our main aim is to target girls between the ages of 16-24. Specifically this age because when you are young you look up to people and aspire to be like them, therefore the performer plays the role of an inspirational strong woman and girls of the age 16-24 will admire her.

Here is the Facebook account of a member of our target audience. Her name is Natalie Clayton and the following screenshots are taken from her private Facebook account where we receive personal details about her life.

 ^ Here, at the top of her Facebook profile, the first thing we see is basic information about her such as;
Name - Natalie Clayton, Gender - Female, Lives in - London, From - Mauritius, Works at H&M and studies at Mulberry School For Girls Sixth Form.
Getting these pieces of information across first is very important because it gives us a basic understanding of the type of person they are going to be.

At the left hand side we see a Profile Picture of Natalie, she is of mixed race origin, half English and half Mauritian. Her image is of a typical teenage girl, she wears make up and lipstick, with her hair neatly combed in place to get the perfect picture. At the top of the page we see the Cover Picture, this is where the user can upload any picture that has a strong meaning to them. Natalie's Cover Picture adopts the following quote "If you want to make your dreams come true, the first thing you have to do it wake up." As this quote is the first thing we see when we come across Natalie's profile, we can tell that these words have a strong meaning to her, she is a very inspiring person and this quote motivates her to succeed in life.

As we further look in to Natalie's profile, we can see that she works at H&M as a Assistant Store Manager. Her description tells us that she's been working in this store for 2 years and she has managed to work her way up through the chain of management in the store. This show us that Natalie is a hard-working person.

We then see that Natalie is studying French, Art and Business A Levels, at Mulberry School For Girls Sixth Form so we can see that she is committed to her education. In her About Me section she writes a little statement about how she is "determined to achieve in life to be rich and successful", now after hearing Natalie's personal voice, we are beginning to get a picture of what kind of person she is and we can clearly tell that she is striving for the best in her life and she is willing to work hard to achieve what she wants.

Now after having clicked on Natalie's Wall, we can see status' and things that she has posted telling us about what's happening and how she's feeling in her everyday life. She talks about how she has been promoted in her job and we see that she shops in Tesco for food because she talks about how she is planning to make dinner for her mother which shows she's a caring person.
On the left hand side we see an image of a motorbike, she tells us that she always uses public transport and she's fed up of it so her dream is to guy this motorbikes now she has passed her driving test. She mentions that her mother has offered to help pay for her to get it but she turned down this offer because she is determined to earn the money herself and pay for it, as there is great satisfaction gained from buying something that you've earned from your own hard work.

Here we can see various status' that Natalie has posted. We discover that she really wants to go to Ibiza with her friends because she is a teenager and she will enjoy the fun clubbing atmosphere. She also says that her favourite drink is vodka and coke. Next we can see that the type of brands she is attracted to is the high class expensive type. She mentions how she likes working at H&M because of the discount, however she does really wish that she could shop in Paul's Boutique because this is a more expensive brand that she sees many artists wearing so she wishes she can afford clothes and bags like they can.

^ In this screen shot of Natalie's Facebook Wall, we can see that she has posted a status about how she has finally saved up to get the new iPhone 5, and she is really happy about this because now with new media convergence, this new iPhone enables one to have their phone and music player all on one device. This is typical of teenagers and young adults because most of them these days have smart phones.
Underneath that we can see that Natalie posted an embedded music video on to her Wall. This is of the song Just Stand Up by various female artists. She comments about the way she finds the song so inspirational and powerful yet it still fits into the theme of r&b and soul. Now we can tell that Natalie enjoys listening to moving inspirational songs that are in the genre of r&b and soul too.

It is possible to click on a page of Natalie's profile where it enables one to see many different things that she Likes, ranging from different artists, books, movies and athlete's. We can see that she mainly listens to main stream highly publicised artists such as Rihanna and Mariah Carey who are r&b and soul music artists. We can then see that she reads girly magazines about music. We also see a list of her favourite films and the athletes that she finds attractive.
This page on her profile is excellent because we get to learn more about Natalie's personally. However she also talks about women who are closer to her heart like her mother and grandmother, this shows that she appreciates her family and looks up to them too.

Overall observing Natalie's profile in great detail has helped me to understand the type of person who likes the genre of music that we are going to recreate. It is important to be specific when targeting for a music video so the desired audience will be the first to watch it and will buy it. Natalie is the perfect example of a member from the target audience and understanding what they do with their lives on an every day basis is important so the advertising methods can be adapted to suit this audience so they will consume the information easily. For example, as see that Natalie often reads teenage r&b music magazines, it would be a good idea to put print adverts in these types of magazines so the audience can directly consume the information that they need to know about the artist. Also, we see that she loves her new iPhone 5 so it would be good to use some online advertisements too.
