Here I have looked at some fonts on Microsoft Word for
Mac and I have shortlisted 20 fonts that I like out of about 200 fonts. I
will now do a further shortlist on 10 fonts and from there use a process
of elimination to chose the 2 that I like the most for my Digipak and Advertisement.
I feel
that fonts are a very important convention of any
Digipak/Advertisement and especially in the soul/r&b genre
that I am working in, therefore I am going to take a lot of time to analyse and
look at fonts to chose the best so I can use the correct conventional fonts
style. To do this I have looked at some artists that fit into the Soul/r&b
genre to get some ideas from what they use, I have looked at Rihanna and
especially Mariah Carey's CD covers. Here is one of the CD covers that have
helped me while I short listed these fonts below:
As we can see, the font is
simple and clear, there are no flicks in it. The letters have no lines
underneath them, they aren’t like this M They’re more like this M so the letters end in a blunt way and don’t have a line
for them to sit on (if that makes any sense, it’s quite hard to describe fonts!
)
Therefore having these types of
letters in mind, I have chosen out some fonts have end bluntly instead of
having line underneath like Mariah Carey does on her CD covers. I am going to
look further into how more Soul/R&B artists use their fonts to see if they
are similar to these styles I have pointed out which will help me with my final
decisions about what 2 fonts to use.
