Magazine Advertisements

I have done research looking into magazine advertisements based on the artists who have had an impact and has inspired a lot the ideas seen in music video for Wonder. They are Emeli Sande (the original artist) debut album (ancillary product) advertisement and Jessie Ware debut album (ancillary product) advertisement.

Magazine Advertisement
Both advertisements show a large image of the artists face from a side profile angle, but the facial features are still seen, meaning the artist can still be recognised, as it is for there debut album and that they are still promoting themselves as a new artist. Also on both advertisements the large text is the name of the artist. However on the Emeli Sande advertisement the name of the artist and the album title is seen on the top of the page, whereas the Jessie Ware advertisement shows it in the middle of the page below the artists face.

In relation to the magazine advertisement that I am creating based on the advertisements I have looked at through my research, I plan to have the artist name (above) and album title on the top of the page (similar to how it is seen on the Emeli Sande advertisement, a slightly profile image of the artist where here facial features can still be seen so that she can still be recognised (like what is seen in both advertisements). As this is also for a new artist and her debut album and new single, so it is important that she can still be recognised and that it is a close up image of the new artist.

On both advertisements all the information is seen below the artists face, starting 2/3rds down the page. Showing information about the new album, the release date of the album, where the single / album are available, music reviews, where the next tour location is and an image of the record label. Also on the Jessie Ware advertisement there is an image of the front cover of the digipak.

… I will start the text with information 2/3rds down the page (like in what is seen in both advertisements (under the image of the artist face). I will add information about the release date, where the album / single is available, music reviews, image of the record label and an image of the front cover of the digipak. Also these are all things that are conventional for a magazine advertisement, so I will add it in on the magazine advertisement in order for me to do well and follow the codes and conventions of an advertisement. …

However the Emeli Sande advertisement follows the house style seen on the digipak, whereas the Jessie Ware advertisement doesn’t do this. But there is a clear different house style seen on the advertisement.

Our Version of Events

Devotion
Jessie Ware debut album digipak front cover
… I will be using the same house style seen on the digipak on the magazine advertisement (like Emeli Sande’s advertisement & digipak), this because through out my research I have noticed that most advertisements and digipak use the same house styles.
