Analysis of Mariah Carey - 'Memoirs of an Imperfect Angle' Digipak & Advertisement

Here I have done an analysis on Mariah Carey’s album ‘Memoirs of an Imperfect Angle’ based on the single ‘Obsessed’ and its ancillary products (Digipak & Advertisement).
The reason I have decided to do this analysis on these products is because Mariah
Carey’s music sometimes focuses on the genre soul, which is the same genre of the song Wonder. So this can influence me or give me ideas on what I could do on my ancillary products.

Outside Panels of the digipak of the album
There is a colour scheme of 3 colours and there are only 3 font styles used. The artist name is large and clear and also the album title is there, but the font style is not to clear. The same font of the title and track list is used throughout the digipak. There is a promotional sticker on the cover of the digipak, which shows the special features that the digipak has ‘INCLUDES EXCLUSIVE MAGAZINE BOOKLET …..’. There is a track list on the back of the digipak, also there is production information. There are clear visual images of the artist on the front and back of the digipak, with no text going across her face. Also there is a visual link with the poster as the back image is used on the poster and the same text style.

I plan to have a very similar promotional sticker to what is seen above, with the text 'includes exclusive ....'
I would use a gold background for the sticker as good is a colour that will stand out and people relate the colour with something special.

I think the font style used for the artist name on the album is something I can use (or something similar) as it is a kind of professional style of text which suits the genre of soul well, as it is a bit classy and chic.

Inside Panels

It has 3 inside panels. The goldish colour of the text seen on the outter panels are seen, but for the text and the shade of skin of the artist. There is no repeat of the track list with additional information. But there are acknowledgments and production information with the copyrights, year of production, website, and the record label. Also there is an image of the artist also wearing little clothing like the outside panels. The font style for the text on the inside panels are the same font style used for the track list.

CD

As the inside panel of the digipak didn’t have a repeat track list with additional information, it can be seen on the CD’s artwork. The font style is also the same as the track list font seen on the back of the digipak.
I also like the way of presenting the repeated track list with additional information.
I would like to do something like this for my CD artwork when creating my digipak. But instead of having a repeated tracklist there I would try to add some visual link from the music video, which is also related to the genre of soul music.
So far that image I have in mind for the image of the visual link on the CD is a music sheet, similar to what is seen on the blog background and in the music video of Wonder.

Here is the music video for the single 'Obsessed'

The advertisement uses the same image on the back of the digipak, which repeats the visual style used on the digipak. It shows the name of the artist and the title of the album very clearly and in large font so what the poster is advertising can be noticed. The name of the artist is the same font of the name of the artist on the cover of the digipak. But the name of the single is the same font style that is used for the track listening on the back of the digipak and for the track listing used on the CD.

On the poster there is no record label, image of the digipak, the release date (so people wouldn’t know when the single was released) and no additional information. So the poster doesn’t follow all the codes and conventions of a advertisement..

In relation to the video the thing that has been cared on to the poster is the selling of the artist being ‘sexy’ in the male gaze (Mulvey theory) and the idea of some sort of angle.
