My Response To Feedback For Ancillary Mock up

Artist Reviews For Advertisement

While looking at advertisements from soul artists, I noticed that many of the advertisements had reviews. So I had decided to add reviews on the advertisement I am creating.

I had done research into the original artists reviews for music.
So this way I can get the right type of review from a media platform that review, listen and recommend the genre of soul music to there audience. As it is suited for them and relates to the new artists audience.

After doing the research and looking into reviews for Emeli Sande's music (original artist), I have decided for the advertisement I am creating for Athena I will show a review from The Guardian. As the audience of The Guardian newspaper is similar to the audience of Athena's music and they do reviews for other soul music artists.

Cd album adverts

The functions of adverts are to promote the artist and to sell their song and to be visullay stricking. And the conventions are: Album/Song title, Artist name, Visual links to the video, condensed information on content, relase date, Reviews, where its avialable to purchase, Record label logo, website.

All these adverts follow the conventions however they represent differet genre and convey different meanings. Alica Keys is a R&B artist so there would be a picture of her noramlly it would be a picture of woman shown from a mans percpective but becuase she is a well unknow artist her audeince are rewarded by showing them a different side to her and a different look which impacts the world of fashion.
The green day advert more relates to Americans becuase they will understand the motive of having an image of a hand holding a bomb in a heart shape. On the other hand so can other audeinces would be able to make that link.
As for Examples advert its very simple this is becuase his music is unknow worldwide also the use of the inital follows the genre of dupstep. With dubstep your more likely to see graphics and specail effeects rather then the face of the artist.

Magazine Advertisement Mock Up

Here is my A4 magazine advertisement mock up, which I have also annotated

The image of the artist on the poster I will be used is

I will crop and rotate this image so the artist is looking the direction, because while looking at soul artists advertisements and digipak covers they were looking at a certain direction.

Digipak Mock Up

Here is my digipak mock up, which I have also annotated.

The images I will be use are:

A close up of the artists face for the front cover. This will she the artists face clearly. I am introducing a new artist and it is for her debut album, so this close up will make it easy for people and the audience to recognise her.

The image for the back cover. I have planned the pose in this photo, so that it will work with what I have planned for the back cover seen on the digipak.

I have decided to use this image for the inside left panel for the digipak. I have asked people which image I should use for the inside panel and they have chosen this one, based on soul and the spacing of things on that panel. Also the image shows the artist as a dominant, strong and serious artist.

I have taken a photograph of a music sheet. This is the image I will cut to be the CD artwork and for the underline for the artist name.

In all the images of the artist I will be changing the colour levels of her lips, so that they are red.

Planning my digipak

Possiable fonts

Anylisis of CD albums part 2

EXAMPLE: OUTSIDE PANELS

In comparsion to Alicas Keys digipak they both have very simple colour scheme, on this digipak the yello is signifcant. It arouses cheerfulness, it's also a attention getter. More so it evokes examples personaility and his genere of dance. The pictures of him and how he is in the shadow contrasts. But its portraying that although example is the artist, creator its all about the music. Similur to all other digioaks it has logos, play list, Artist name in clear readable font. It has quotes to persuade the audeince to buying  the album.

GREEN DAY OUTSIDE PANELS

Green day digipak is very diffrent to the others it is more creative and uses more IT skills. The text of Artist and album name is repersentative of the image of the hand holding a bomb in a heart shape. Which also is a conotaion of war sheds blood . The tittle reffers to what the opinion of the artitsts view on politicains. This to uses three colour scheme of red, black and white. Also the image is very stong in warning and calling out to it's fans.

Realting these digipaks to mine.

My digipak will consits of three colours black and white with red. That has intertextulaity from our music video. It will have a close up shot of the artist Athena to firmliurise her with the audience.

Ancillary product- anyslis of Cd albums

As part of my anylitcal work I looked at three artist and their albums: Alicia Keys, Example and Green day. All from different geners of soul, dance and rock/pop.
                                                                  OUT SIDE PANELS
This digipak consits of 4 panels, it's kept very simple. It follows the conventions of having no more then three colours. Black and white with the intials in red and unique font. The iconic red is eye catching becuase it's implying that there is more to the exteria. And lures people by catching their attention.  A digipak plays the role of establishing the artist as a regonsiable brand and to create familiraty with its audience it does this through the medium close up of Alicia Keys is used effectivley becuase the way she poses shows her to be domenering and powerful.  All most like we have to follow her command 'buy my album'. In addition its typical of her genre of soul and r&B. For those who do not know her can see her properly and will be able to identify her with her other albms. For loyal fans they see her in a new perspective becuase normally Keys will have a progative image of her used to be seen through the 'male gaze.' However it allows new fans to see one of her charatistics. The back panel has what you would typically find; barcode, song list, small print and logos of production companies. With the digipaks fans are giving poster of Alicia Keys. This rewards her loyal fans and creates interst of those who dont know her.

                                                                    INSIDE PANELS
The inside panels have the absens of text apart from her intials which this time is in glod, giving the meaning of it being preiouse and almost making the audeince think its a prize for them supporting her and her music. The image on the right side refelects her to being a role model as she is pretty and strong woman.

AMBER - Advertisement Research 1

                 Adverts on the tube

Swedish House Mafia:

These are all adverts that I have seen while out and about that I took pictures of, all of which were in tube stations. Swedish House Mafia are a Swedish electronic dance music trio, and their advert features all three of the artists on it. These photos have been heavily edited, however we can still tell it's them. They stick to a clear colour scheme throughout where they stay with black and white. The title is large and clear for all to read and the words "Out Now" are also clear as well. This is a convention of a print ad, as these types of promotional features, will catch the audiences attention and make them want to buy it now because they know it's available and that they can.

Ellie Goulding:

Ellie Goulding's adverts for her latest album Halcyon is represnted in a conventional way. Firstly it sticks to the 3 colour rule of having only black, white and pink featured in it. The pink is used to high light the writing and this colour connotes love and is a feminine colour, this refelcts her main target audience as mostly females would be attracted to her work as she sings about love and relationships a lot. The photograph of herself is a profiled Close up which is a good way to show her face clearly, but from a different angle rather than just straight ahead. This is something that I'd consider doing on my advertisement as well because I think profiled close ups, such as this one, really work well.

Micheal Buble:

This is Buble's new Christmas album and we can see this because at the bottom of the page, it says in big font "the new album". The white colour on here represents snow, which connects to the idea of it being a Christmas album. The picture is from the back, however his head is turned so we can still see his face, he is able to do this as he is such an established artist that we don't really need to see his face because with just his famous name, we still know it's him. However, this wouldn't be a good idea to do on an advertisement for a new artist, as they are trying to get recognised, therefore it is important to have their face shown clearly so that the consumer will look at her and then recognise her face easily.

Digipak Analysis 3

Overall:
The last digipak I will use for my research is Mariah Carey's digipak design.
The first inner cover design shows an image of Mariah at the bottom of the page in her underwear, which also draws the audience's attention. The colours used are edited which gives all of the pictures the same colour filter, in this case it is very effective because the digipak then becomes linked which is a convention of digipaks as you dont want it to look out of place.
The information is in a black/dark grey colour however i think that it isnt very conventional because the focus would be on the provocative picture rather than the writing, especially because it has a lot of writing; the audience would rarely be very interested in reading through the whole few paragraphs. wrapped However the digipak as a whole looks compact in this format.
The provocative pictures could imply that that is the sort of theme she will be focusing on throughout her music. The colour scheme focuses a lot more on nude skin colour and light colours which gives off an angelic aura.
Overall, this digipak design follows the conventions of a digipak as it has relevant, visually linked images, sticks to a similar colour scheme and also provides logos of the recording companies she is associated with.

Relating it to my digipak:
I will most likely be using a filter to edit my photos as i feel like it will make all of the pictures im using seem linked which will be very effective in the visual look of my overall digipak. I will also be including the record company our aritst is associated with.

Digipak Analysis 2

Overall:
This is a picture of Beyonce's digipak. As we can see, overall, it is following theconventions of a digipak. It contains different pictures of her in order to familiarise the audience with her. The second and the third panel have close-up/ medium close ups of the artist. This is very conventional as the purpose of a digipak is to mainly promote the artist; therefore for clear pictures  to be used is useful.
Furthermore, we can see that the main colours used in this digipack are black and golds/browns which are not necessarily associated with feminity or masculinity therefore maing it relevant to both genders.
The font used is also very simple, this is very significant as a clear font will not only make your overall product look a lot more professional, but it will also make it a lot more easier for the audience to read through.

Relating it to my digipak:
Although my digipack wont be using the same colour scheme, font or style ( as mine is a four panel and this is a six panel) i will also be following these conventions as this is what the audience would expect and so therefore to include things such a close up picture of Athena ( our artist ), i will also be using a colour scheme that will be visually linked to our music video. This digipak also relates to mine as i will also be using a clear font in order to  make my audience be a lot more willing to read the information provided and to also make it a lor more clear.

AMBER - Audience feedback after the cinema screening

Today we had our music videos screened on The Screen On The Green, which is a small private cinema in Angel, near college. This was great experience and fun to see our work on the big screen. However, this was also a great opportunity to get some immediate audience feedback and thoughts right after they'd seen it, therefore I grabbed this opportunity and filmed a few members from the target audience to get their responses.

I also took a recording of some of the music video being played on the big screen while we were in there watching it.

Here's some of the feedback from the audience, these are just general thoughts and ideas from them, however I plan to do some more extensive research and interviews with direct members of the core and wider target audience soon. This will enable me to get much more detailed responses as these were very vague answers because they were general thoughts.

AMBER - Final Shortlist of pictures for Digipak

Front cover:

This is an extreme close up of the artists face, therefore being conventional of a CD cover as we are able to see her face clearly so she is easily recognisable.

Back cover:

This close up profiled shot will be used for the back cover, with the track list running down the left hand side next to her face. This image clearly connects with the image for the front cover, as they are both shot outside so the lighting is the same which makes the face bright and clear.

Inside centre panel:

This picture will be used on the middle panel that will be seen when the Digipak is first opened. The artist is looking directly into the camera, making the audience feel drawn in like they are looking into her eyes.

Inside panels:

This extended long picture was created using a panoramic effect on the camera where a 360 degree shot is taken and then stretched out as one long image. I liked this because it will connect all three inside panels together perfectly and I will split this picture into three sections over the three panels. The artist is featured on the right and she is wearing the same red dress which connects to the other images throughout the Digipak.

AMBER - Photoshoot 2 - Photos

AMBER - Photoshoot 2

After taking some pictures in an interior environment, I felt they didn't turn out too well, therefore I decided to go and take some further pictures in an exterior environment. A lot of the music video is filmed outside and the Core Target Audience said that they really like the exterior environments, therefore I thought that I should connect my Digipak to the exterior side of it.
The outside, the nature and the sunshine was really prominent in the music video and the beautiful environment really reflects Wonder. Here are some pictures of my photographer Anil, taking some pictures of me.
I decided to wear the red dress as this featured a lot in the music video so this will create a clear and memorable connect between the two. Red is a colour that connotes passion and strength which also connects the the ideologies of of our music video, as it is created to empower the audience and give them strength to pull through, showing them that they can achieve and be full of Wonder too.

We took a variety of shots and some of the actual pictures will be posted on the blog soon. I really liked the many close ups we did, also some of the mid shots are good too, where you could see the red dress. The camera used is professional and gives an excellent quality, therefore the pictures looked much better.

AMBER - Photoshoot 1 - Photos

Here are some of the pictures taken on the photoshoot that I liked. I am unsure if I will use them, however I narrowed the selection down to a few that I like best.
We used the Green Screen to enable us to crop around my body to have a different background behind me, however this resulted in having lots of shadows which would be hard to crop around. These photos turned out ok, however I feel it would also be nice to have some photos in an exterior environment as a lot of the music video was filmed outside too.

Magazine Advertisements

I have done research looking into magazine advertisements based on the artists who have had an impact and has inspired a lot the ideas seen in music video for Wonder. They are Emeli Sande (the original artist) debut album (ancillary product) advertisement and Jessie Ware debut album (ancillary product) advertisement.

Magazine Advertisement
Both advertisements show a large image of the artists face from a side profile angle, but the facial features are still seen, meaning the artist can still be recognised, as it is for there debut album and that they are still promoting themselves as a new artist. Also on both advertisements the large text is the name of the artist. However on the Emeli Sande advertisement the name of the artist and the album title is seen on the top of the page, whereas the Jessie Ware advertisement shows it in the middle of the page below the artists face.

In relation to the magazine advertisement that I am creating based on the advertisements I have looked at through my research, I plan to have the artist name (above) and album title on the top of the page (similar to how it is seen on the Emeli Sande advertisement, a slightly profile image of the artist where here facial features can still be seen so that she can still be recognised (like what is seen in both advertisements). As this is also for a new artist and her debut album and new single, so it is important that she can still be recognised and that it is a close up image of the new artist.

On both advertisements all the information is seen below the artists face, starting 2/3rds down the page. Showing information about the new album, the release date of the album, where the single / album are available, music reviews, where the next tour location is and an image of the record label. Also on the Jessie Ware advertisement there is an image of the front cover of the digipak.

… I will start the text with information 2/3rds down the page (like in what is seen in both advertisements (under the image of the artist face). I will add information about the release date, where the album / single is available, music reviews, image of the record label and an image of the front cover of the digipak. Also these are all things that are conventional for a magazine advertisement, so I will add it in on the magazine advertisement in order for me to do well and follow the codes and conventions of an advertisement. …

However the Emeli Sande advertisement follows the house style seen on the digipak, whereas the Jessie Ware advertisement doesn’t do this. But there is a clear different house style seen on the advertisement.

Our Version of Events
Emeli Sande debut album digipak front cover
Devotion
Jessie Ware debut album digipak front cover
… I will be using the same house style seen on the digipak on the magazine advertisement (like Emeli Sande’s advertisement & digipak), this because through out my research I have noticed that most advertisements and digipak use the same house styles.

AMBER - Decisions from Digipak Research

Overall from looking into various different Digipaks, I have been able to decide a few things that I would like to featured in my own Digipak.

  • 6 Panels: (Inspired by Oasis - Acoustic)
  1. Front cover - Artist with Title
  2.  Back cover - Track list
  3.  Centre panel seen when opened - Close up of artist with song lyrics 'You are full of Wonder' on it
  4. A picture that goes across all three panels will be used on the inside panels.                              Inside panel on the left, main disc with 12 tracks on it will be here.
  5. Inside panel on the right, second disc with bonus tracks.
  6. Centre inside panel, song lyrics of single Wonder will be here with a mid shot of the artist faded in the back ground with lyrics covering it.

  • 2 Discs: (Inspired by Mariah Carey - Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel)
Disc 1, will have the 12 Tracks on it that are labelled on the back cover in the Track list.
Disc 2, will have 4 extra bonus tracks, recorded in the studio that have not been heard anywhere
else they are exclusive to this album only.

  • Inside Booklet (Inspired by Olly Murs and P!nk's Digipaks)
If I have extra time once I have finished making my 6 panels, I want to make a mini booklet with
further information about the artist in it.
I will have 6 pages; 2 of the pages will have song lyrics on them, 2 will have pictures of the artist,
1 will have information about the artist, such as her upbringing and how she got to where she is
today and what inspired to write this first album. And finally, the last page will have Thank you'
to everyone who has helped create this album.

  • A clear colour scheme (Inspired by Katy Perry - Teenage Dream)
The colours I am thinking of using are red, creme and black. I will decided this properly once the
photoshoot has been done and I have looked at the photos carefully. For now I think using red
will be a good idea as it connotes passion and strength, the black will show sophistication, and the
creme will supply a nice calm back ground for the images to sit on.

  • Connecting to the genre (Inspired by Jessie Ware - Devotion)
I will use images that connect to the soul/pop genre. To connect with the soul side of it, the artist
will wear clothes that cover the body so she is not dismembered so the audience will have respect
for her. However, to connect with the pop side; I will use images in an exterior environment, as members from the Core Target Audience said they really liked this.

AMBER - Digipak Research 5

AMBER - Digipak Research 4

Although Oasis are a band that does not fit into the genre that I am working in, I still really liked the styled of this Digipak so I decided to look into it. Oasis are an English Rock band and their Digipak really reflects their genre, this is because on the front cover we see a guitar. Rock is all about the love for music and their instruments, therefore a guitar is an instrument that is always used in Rock music and featuring it gives a clear connection so that as soon as the consumer sees it, they will instantly be able to tell which genre it's from.

This is a 6 paneled Digipak with a front and back cover, a disc inside, and the rest of the panels have pictures and further information inside. The colour scheme is kind of 2 different shades of orangey brown, with hints of black and white in it; this is because the guitar is an orangey brown colour, therefore the rest of the Digipak revolves around similar colours. On the back cover we see a discrete picture of a guitar, it is from a completely different angle as the picture on the front, however it still gives a sleek connection between these two panels. The colourings are different on the front and back covers, but they are not extremely different as the clear connection still works; the text remains the same colours as well. The disc inside is white and also features the track list on it. I really like the idea of having 6 panels, as one is able to add more information about the artist so the audience get more for their money. I will look into 6 paneled Digipak's further as using 6 panels is something I am interested in doing.

Chosen Design Ideas for Magazine Advertisement & 4 Panel Digipak

The colour scheme I have chosen is

I have coven this colour scheme because the colours work well together and they are effective, classy and notable when together, which suits the soul genre.
Also when I saw this magazine advertisement and album cover, it helped my decision as I think the colour scheme works well in them.

Trey Songz - Advertisement
Olly Murs - Digipak Cover
However I will not be changing any colours of the artists face, just adjusting the colour levels

The 2 font styles that I have chosen are
This is because they work well together and based on my research on advertisements and digipaks on the soul genre, this is they type and style of font that would be used. As it is almost very serious and work type of font. This is because the soul genre is a genre taken very seriously in the music and this is what the genre audience will be expecting to see.
(Trojan Pro for the main text & Courier New for sub and additional text)

The final images of the artist that I plan to use for the digipak are

The final images of the artist that I plan to use for the advertisement are

2 out of the 3 photos (below) will be used for the magazine advertisement

I have decided to do a 4 panel digipak instead of a 6 panel digipak. This is because while looking at digipaks, 6 panel digipaks are mostly used for 2 disk albums.
However as the artist Athena is a new artist she doesn’t have a 2 disk album, as this is her debut album. Therefore I am creating a 4 panel digipak.
As while I was doing my research in to debut albums, I have noticed they are 4 panel digipaks as it is there first album and they still creating and working on making the album do well on the album chart, large fan base, their target audience and wider audience. As the new artist will still be trying to promote themselves and there music. While is also why there are many close ups of the artist face on the music video and the ancillary products.
