The strengths of our Britney Spear's remake.
Looking back at the Britney Spears remake that I
completed with a group at the end of the AS year, there are a number of
technical strengths that I have noticed.
In the group each of us had a particular role that we
stuck to in order to help the production flow smoothly; Jayne was the actress,
Gustavo the camera man, and myself as the editor and director. Therefore all of
the group members planned out what we were going to do before hand which worked
to our advantage. This was a strength because the production ran smoothly
because we all knew what we were supposed to be doing. Everyone stuck to their
attended roles but whenever someone needed assistance we were more than willing
to get involved and help them out because it was all a team effort. If it
wasn't for our great team work then none of the technical skills would have
worked out, so above all, team work is the most important thing.
I believe that another strength of this video is the
lip synching. This was the first time that I have edited together a music video
because last year we worked on editing a film opening, so whilst doing this
task I learnt that editing music videos is much different and much more tricky.
Not only does one have to edit to the beat and rhythm, lip synching has to be
created too. Our teacher taught us how to lip synching using Final Cut Pro and
the whole experience was new to me but I still believe that I did a good job
even though it was my first time. It may not be perfection but I am proud of my
lip syncing here and now in A2 I will use the lip synching skills that I learnt
whilst making this remake in my actual music video.
Our choice of song was very appropriate as in the
original 'Hit Me Baby one More Time' music video, it was set in a school
corridor. This was great for us because being in a college building there are
appropriate corridors which we easily used to film the video in. This was a
strength for us because we were able to recreate an original feel with accurate
mise-en-scene.
Comparing our video remake to the actual 'Hit Me
Baby one More Time' music video, I can see that we have accurately recreated
some of the shots in the same way as the actual video. For example, at 0.37
seconds, we see a low angled shot of Gustavo jumping sideways which was exactly
like the low angle shot used in the actual video. Similarly, at the beginning,
at 0.05 seconds we see a high angled CU shot of Jayne's face, just like the one
of Britney in her video. This was a strength because our task was to do a
shot-by-shot remake and careful planning and thinking enabled us to realise the
different angles used so we could recreate them ourselves.
